Her circumstances are not perfect, as she has recently lost one more of her siblings and her only blood sister still alive is having serious health problems.
It seems, however, that I had to go far away from the mainland, in the middle of the ocean, in order to hear someone saying aloud that she is happy, and this because of living “close to God” and serving God for over 64 years of her earthly existence.
Right there and then this humble woman looking more than twenty years younger than her actual age thought me several very timely lessons:
We do not have to wait for the circumstances of our life to be perfect in order to be happy.
People can age gracefully, so there is no need to be so afraid of getting old.
Cultivating the spiritual dimension of our existence will make us happy and potentially help us age gracefully and live a very long life.
After visiting this woman, I found myself wishing I will be as lucid, calm, peaceful and good looking as her when I will approach my eightieth anniversary. The secret to all of this seems to be believing in God and in a higher purpose for our earthly existence, and living every day of our life according to these beliefs.
